The two most commonly used nonverbal tests for gifted identification, the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test (NNAT) and the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) nonverbal battery, have been directly compared, but not in their effects on identification when used with various norming plans, cutoffs, and test score modifiers. In this study, CogAT7 nonverbal battery scores were compared to NNAT2 scores of kindergarteners from a very large urban school district to explore the differences between who is selected for participation in gifted programming based on which test is used and which test norming plans, cutoffs, and test score modifiers are selected. In addition to standard norming methods, the effects of both group and local norming were also examined.
