Curricular resources are integral to the mathematics classroom, yet more could be known about how preservice teachers use resources and select lesson components when planning mathematics lessons. Framed with a documentational approach of didactics perspective, this study explores the decisions preservice teachers make when presented with four curricular resources and tasked with planning one lesson on the division of fractions. Preservice teachers were pressed to provide rationale for their decision making around resource use to provide insight into the process. Findings indicate some resources were used much more extensively than others. The most common reasons cited for resource use were: appropriate rigor and useful problems. Although depending on the resource, the incorporation of manipulatives and real-world connections were also cited.
