There are surfacing concerns that the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s (NCAA) reform movement overlooked the importance of student athletes’ campus integration as a means to improve academic outcomes (Gaston-Gayles, 2009). This study highlights potential implications of campus integration to contribute to the discussion of ways to improve collegiate persistence for black male student athletes. Data was collected from the Educational Longitudinal Study (ELS: 2002/12). Logistic regression will be applied to identify the relationship between campus integration and persistence. Compared to White male student athletes, the preliminary results reveal that black male student athletes engage in higher levels of campus integration - academic, social and financial aid.
