Deterritorializing Dichotomies in Qualitative Research: Might We Consider (Post)Ethnographic Movements?

Mon, April 16, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fifth Floor, Westside Ballroom Salon 1

Abstract

Conventional humanist research and post-qualitative inquiry mark a timely mo(ve)ment in qualitative research. Rather than engaging this dichotomy as an oppositional relationship, this study offers possibilities for working at the threshold of inquiry. Embracing the contradictions of theory, the study employed ethnographic practices that worked within the juncture of conventional humanist analysis (EH) and post-qualitative inquiry (EP) to illuminate a (post)ethnographic study of un/becoming an elementary science teacher that is not yet. EH and EP depict how two modes of analyses, informed by different ontological assumptions, might provide a unique apparatus for de/constructing ways to do and think qualitative research anew.
