This study reports on the second phase of an investigation of student teaching supervisory practices in the United States and in Israel. We assessed and compared the views of preservice teachers about their learning and professional development during the student-teaching experience with an emphasis on the supervisory role. We found differences in several areas between the two colleges that may impact the student teachers' professional development: Differences in the ways the student teachers experience is structured; Difference in the focus of the two programs: Development of professional identity vs development of skills and pedagogy and differences in the dynamics of the triad. The analysis of supervisory roles may help to deepen the meaning of supervision for preservice teacher development.
