Sat, April 14, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Sheraton New York Times Square, Floor: Second Floor, Empire Ballroom East

Abstract

1:1 technology initiatives have been widely embraced by both schools and the lay public throughout the United States. This paper considers shifts in the role of teacher, students, and knowledge through examining teachers’ instruction using 1:1 technology initiatives. Considering such shifts as features of Uncertain Times, the current era in which we live where the presence of ever-changing technological innovation has reshaped U.S. society, the paper draws upon cases of millennial teachers to illustrate the following themes: 1) 1:1 technology initiatives: Rhetoric versus reality, 2) the shift from knowledge-seeking to knowledge-assessing, and 3) personalized learning and the changing role of teacher.
