Defined as “three- to five minute visual narratives that synthesize images, video, audio recordings of voice and music, and text to create compelling stories” (Gubrium & Harper, 2013, p. 123), digital stories are a creative and vital way to unpack, challenge, and share our assumptions and queries about the world. In addition, they offer potential for “identity performances, allowing participants to construct and represent their own experiences” (Gubrium & Harper, 2013, p. 129). This paper will explore my own digital story, seeking to answer the questions: What does it mean to listen attentively – to self/others/the world? How might this act of active listening ~ of becoming a “curriculum listener” ~ inform understandings of what shapes/influences our teaching selves?
