State Teacher Evaluation Policies: State Legislation Since the Every Student Succeeds Act

Abstract

With the passage of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), states have flexibility in determining whether to use of student growth measures as a significant part of educator evaluations. The purpose of this project is to determine what changes, if any, state legislatures have proposed to their teacher evaluation systems. The study identifies and classifies state legislation filed after ESSA related to teacher evaluation policies that relate to student growth measures.
