Dispositions, in addition to knowledge and skills, are an important aspect of pre-service teacher effectiveness. The purpose of the study is to develop and empirically test a fieldwork disposition assessment tool in combination with other assessments already in use. Construct validity evidence is reviewed, followed by a concurrent criterion validation of the instrument to examine a hypothesized overall model of pre-service teacher effectiveness. Three dispositions emerged: inclusion, engagement, and professionalism, and accounted for a unique part of the variance in the effective teaching model. This study provides initial evidence that dispositions should be examined in context with other assessments providing a more comprehensive picture of what effective teaching requires at the pre-service level.
