Campus Factors Related to Institutions' Philanthropic Health

Mon, April 16, 8:15 to 9:45am, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fifth Floor, Booth

Abstract

Federal and state funding continues to decrease for higher education institutions causing colleges and universities to identify new sources of income to fill the widening budget gaps. One of these income sources is philanthropic support from institutions alumni. Using IPEDS and VSE data, this study examined whether several institutional factors at large, state public institutions impact the overall endowment on a per alumni basis. Results found that factors such as student to faculty ratio, average faculty salary, tenure/tenure track vs. non tenure and total enrollment impacted the philanthropic health.
