Gamification and Learner Traits

Sun, April 15, 2:45 to 4:15pm, The Parker, Floor: Second Floor, Lorica Room

Abstract

Gamification is proposed as a means to motivate and promote learning. The extant research can be summarised as cautiously optimistic. However, there is widespread acknowledgement that significant lacunas in our knowledge remain. Personality traits have a significant impact on individuals’ experience of pedagogical interventions. Knowing how individual’s characteristics will impact on their experience of gamification will inform the effective design of gamified learning interventions. This research examines the impact personality traits have on students’; (1) perceptions of, (2) engagement with and, (3) overall performance in a gamified learning intervention.
