This survey study of a Midwestern state examines the perceptions of teacher leaders, teachers, and administrators on literacy coaching efforts established in the state, largely due a recent large scale funding initiative, the Teacher Leadership System. Constructed responses from the survey were analyzed to inform an understanding of the practices that each participant group expected literacy coaches to engage in and how literacy coaches report being prepared, as compared to the perceptions of administrators and teachers regarding their preparation. Connections to the importance of establishing a well-articulated coaching program in order to draw on the effectiveness of coaching is discussed.
