What ARNIEdocs.info Reveals About Research, Evaluation, and Assessment in Schools

Fri, April 13, 12:00 to 1:30pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Americas Hall 1-2 - Exhibit Hall

Abstract

ARNIE’s (www.ARNIEdocs.info) 3,102 publications were studied to learn what research, evaluation, and assessment activities are conducted in the schools. Entries (607 from 2005 to 2017) into AERA Division H’s annual Outstanding Publications Competition were also analyzed for content. Assessment, mathematics, reading, growth models, evaluation, and accountability were frequent topics. A wealth of insights is waiting to be gained by researchers studying the methodologies and databases described in ARNIE’s studies. Questions raised include: “Will statistical significance tests increase in frequency with the evidence requirement in ESSA?” Compared to journal articles, these school district publications have the extraordinary advantage of being unconstrained by length, format, style, publication date, and price point for the consumer.
