Superintendent Perspectives on Teacher Evaluation

Sat, April 14, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Americas Hall 1-2 - Exhibit Hall

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to learn superintendent perceptions of a statewide teacher evaluation system. The researchers created a questionnaire that consisted of twenty-five Likert-based items with four open-ended response questions which focused on superintendent perceptions in three areas of the Ohio Teacher Evaluation System (OTES): general implementation, teacher performance, and student growth measures. More than 850 superintendents participated in the study from 2013-2016. Participants reported an increase in confidence in their administrators’ abilities to implement the teacher evaluation system over the three years of the study. However, the participants continued to report a negative perception that the teacher evaluation system will improve the teaching and learning for their students.
