Reflection has been touted of the most important actions for developing effective teaching practices in teachers. However, the impact of reflection on teaching has not been well researched. This research examines the intersection of reflection and practice through analyzing classroom observation data collected by video and reflective journals of participants. This study found there was generally a positive association between the level of reflection and teaching performance. Teachers who engaged in pedagogical and critical reflection were twice as likely to be scored as effective as teachers who engaged in pre reflection or surface reflection. Furthermore, this research found a correlation between the level of reflection demonstrated by the teacher and change in teaching performance.
