Reflection is an important part of teacher education and teaching practice. However, the process of reflection is often overlooked in teacher preparation programs. Even in some occasional cases where reflection is fostered, pre-service teachers tend to come up with only summaries of their experiences. In this presentation, strategies for scaffolding are proposed for preservice teachers’ reflection on action and in action related to such critical issues as multicultural and multiethnic classrooms. Pre-service teachers need to reflect not only on past experiences but also on in-the-moment experiences to make informed instructional decisions. This presentation will demonstrate theoretical foundations and showcase computer-based scaffolding for pre-service teachers’ reflection, specifically designed for culturally relevant pedagogy.
