Much research has investigated the correlates and causes of teacher turnover, yet scholars have not considered the contribution of employee engagement. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between teacher turnover and teacher engagement. Employee engagement has been defined in the human resource development field as the cognitive, emotional, and behavioral energy an employee directs toward positive organizational outcomes. This study employed a cross-sectional design that utilized a survey to collect and analyze data from 143 teachers who graduated from the UTeach teacher preparation program. Results found that higher behavioral engagement is related to a higher intent to leave, while job satisfaction is related to a lower intent to leave.
