Using Social Stories™ on the iPad to Improve Classroom Behavior for Students With Autism

Sat, April 14, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Park Central Hotel New York, Floor: Mezzanine Level, Carnegie

Abstract

In this single case, multiple baseline across participants study, we examined the effects of a iPad-based Social Story™ intervention on the number of redirects required by four 8-10 year old male students with ASD during a group lesson. Immediately before the group lesson, the participant was presented with the Social Story™ on the iPad. During the group lesson that followed the researcher observed the participant and recorded the number of redirects by the teacher or teacher assistant. Upon completion of the intervention all students decreased the number of redirects required to attend. Results indicate that an iPad-based Social Story™ intervention has the potential to improve the attending skills of students with ASD.
