Teacher Leadership Development: Tracking One District's Progress Over Three Years

Abstract

This study examines the district-wide implementation of a teacher leadership development system over the course of three years. Over the course of the initiative's implementation, through an annual survey of conditions and initial outcomes, teachers, teacher leaders, and administrators responded to determine progress toward six district goals. Using an analytic model as a lens, this study highlights the leadership development at the classroom, school, and district levels. The results indicated improved teaching practice, collective leadership expansion, and increased relational trust. These findings provide direction for other districts considering leadership development and possible tools for data collection.
