Abstract

This is a paper focuses on two issues central to improving student achievement, the integration of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles into general education and the inclusion of this framework into the preparation program for school administrators. First, this paper details the need to examine curriculum, instruction and assessment in p-12 schools for accessibility in order to address student achievement gaps. Second, it explores the important role school leaders have in advocating for universal design for learning (UDLL. Lastly, this paper reveals what can be learned by methodically examining student feedback, course outcomes, and instructor learning when making a shift from “traditional” methods of leadership preparation to transformative leadership.
