Abstract

To make a positive difference, school leaders must be aware of the antecedents of Organizational Citizenship Behaviors. Our aim was to deepen our understanding of the kinds of actions school leaders can take to elicit organizational citizenship behaviors in the service of improving student achievement. What can principals do to elicit from teachers the extra commitment that leads to the above-and-beyond contributions that have such a positive impact on student achievement? The purpose of this study was to describe the principal behaviors that affect OCB. Our findings suggest that by providing social and emotional support to teachers may pay more dividends than traditional support vehicles like resources, time, and feedback.
