This presentation draws upon a critical qualitative study that took place in Vancouver, British Columbia and focused on a particular group of youths learning to be activists at a social justice organization, “Think Again” (TA). My aim was to collaborate with participants as co-researchers as much as possible. To this end, I incorporated two approaches for analyzing data with participants, based on the work of Fine (2014). In this presentation, I will describe these emergent participatory methods and outline their methodological strengths and limitations with empirical data. This presentation will provide conceptual and methodological tools for researchers concerned with issues of educational equity, justice, opportunity, place and democracy.
