Sun, April 15, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Trianon Ballroom

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of evidence based nuclear energy instruction on110 seventh graders’ risk perception and decisions about the construction of nuclear power plants in Turkey. The study was a quasi-experimental study. Nuclear energy was taught to all groups with three different methods: interactive lecture, evidence based lecture and evidence based activity. Each student completed a risk perception questionnaire and prepared a letter to the deputies about the construction of nuclear power plants as pre and posttests. In experimental group 2, risk perception increased significantly and their acceptance of nuclear power plant construction decreased significantly. On the other hand, in the experimental group 1 the acceptance of nuclear power plant construction increased.
