Sat, April 14, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Americas Hall 1-2 - Exhibit Hall

Abstract

Phase one of this two-year study included an extensive literature review of critical influences affecting the work of Superintendents, prompting a published pilot study involving interviews with Superintendents. Phase one identified successes and challenges regarding key domains relating to the relationships between teachers and Superintendents in Alberta: inclusion and classroom complexity, the role of technology, and teacher workload and efficacy. Phase two of the study involved a panel of local, national and international researchers who reviewed the data, identified historical and current critical influences that have shaped the work of the superintendent, and identified strategic opportunities for a better understanding of the role of the superintendent as a leader in relation to building the capacity of the teaching profession.
