Interplay: Male College Student Identity Transformation Through Video Games

Fri, April 13, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Millennium Broadway New York Times Square, Floor: Eighth Floor, Gallery 8

Abstract

This paper examines how gamer identity influences the development of college student identity. It draws on 21 semi-structured interviews of male college students who self-identified as gamers at a large public research university. This paper looks more closely at how video games influence male college students in their identity development. The author finds that there is an ‘interplay’ of both gamer identity and college student identity; that is, gamer identity influences the development of college student identity.
