Establishing Sustainable School Improvement Through Professional Learning Networks

Tue, April 17, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Sheraton New York Times Square, Floor: Second Floor, Central Park East Room

Abstract

Despite promising research results, professional development and school improvement do not automatically result from working in Professional Learning Networks (PLNs). The effects may be small or results are mixed (Author et al., submitted; Chapman & Muijs, 2014; Lomos et al., 2011;). Sustainability of educators’ learning and school improvement as a result of working in PLNs is especially challenging (e.g., Harris & Jones, 2010; Sleegers & Leithwood, 2010). This paper, therefore, focuses on capacity building to sustain school improvement through working in PLNs, and implications for practice and further research.
