In this work we explore sexuality in informal settings, particularly in science museum exhibits. Through case study methodology, we focus on a Brazilian exhibit that approaches sensitive issues such as sexual practices, teen pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Using science communication theory, we examine dimensions of visitor engagement, and expectations held by museum professionals with respect to the exhibit and visitor experiences. Data collected through observations, interviews, field notes and documents revealed the potential of articulating different models of science communication. Our findings highlight a visitor experience in which informed decision -making, sharing of personal stories, co-production of knowledge and learning how to care were at play while navigating the complexities of the issues raised by the displays.
