If we are to understand the most effective ways to bridge the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) gender gap, we must understand what supports are needed for girls to develop positive STEM identities that persist across K-12, post-secondary education, and into STEM careers. This interactive session presents an overview of the recent literature related to supporting and encouraging girls to engage in STEM opportunities and ultimately develop positive STEM identities, with a particular focus on girls who are most underrepresented in STEM. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss the literature and implications for their practice in formal or informal education settings.
