The purpose of this paper is to present the theoretical foundations, validation, and exploratory factor analysis of the final version of the Culturally Responsive Instruction Observation Protocol (CRIOP). The final version of the CRIOP is a 5-point Likert style instrument that measures the degree to which classroom instruction is culturally responsive. Analyses using reliability, correlation, and exploratory factor analysis revealed the final version of the CRIOP to maintain good consistency, to be highly correlated with previous versions, and to contain a two factor structure of culturally responsive instruction: Pedagogy and Critical Discourse. Implications for the theoretical conceptualizations of culturally responsive instruction and future uses of this measure are discussed.
