Tue, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Sheraton New York Times Square, Floor: Second Floor, Empire Ballroom East

Abstract

These current times are unsafe for many. Massive deportations, anti-islamic sentiments, and increased racial violence often consequence in feelings of anxiety and fear for our young children. As we re-imagine social justice education in these changing times, understanding the complex work of justice-oriented teachers is especially important. How are teachers advocating for and working toward greater equity and social justice in education? The purpose of this paper is to present the case studies of three justice-oriented k-2 teachers, their hopes, struggles, and strategies for teaching for social justice.
