In this study a random sample of school principals in the state of Ohio are surveyed using a Likert-type scale based on the value statements made by Dewey (1897) in his early manifesto, “My Pedagogic Creed.” Key statements on five themes—education, school, educational subject matter, the nature of method, and the school’s role in social progress—were used to survey the manner in which present-day principals agree with Dewey’s early beliefs in education. The results reported in this proposal are the quantitative findings from what is a much larger sequential explanatory design of a mixed methods study.
