Using Drama as a Pedagogical Technique in Social Studies Teacher Education

Abstract

As a field, social studies education has been unable to clearly define pedagogical content knowledge. Drama, however, has been identified to be useful as a cross-curricular pedagogical method. As such, this study pursued a sample of preservice teachers' performance in historical drama videos (n=39) and analyzed their abilities in demonstrating elements of good history teaching as adapted from Fogo (2014). The results indicated that preservice teachers generally demonstrate the good history teaching practices, but there are numerous additional areas for exploration.
