Abstract

The U.S. Department of Education, through its research arm of the Institute of Education Sciences, is committed to developing educational interventions designed to enhance educational outcomes. Although methodological standards for evaluating the efficacy of these interventions have been established, there are limited guidelines for the development of these interventions. To address this gap, we reviewed the literature to identify processes used by researchers to develop school-based curricular interventions. Based on this review we developed preliminary guidelines for this process and then illustrate their use in the development of an intervention for Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate students designed to teach these students strategies (e.g., coping) to manage their rigorous academic coursework.
