Bangladeshi Adolescents' Eco-Literacy in Postcolonial Times

Sat, April 14, 4:05 to 5:35pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Americas Hall 1-2 - Exhibit Hall

Abstract

This research is about Bangladeshi young people’s ecoliteracy, and how such literacy is socially and culturally influenced. This is important because at present Bangladesh has no particular policy document on environmental education for school education. The theoretical foundations of this study are in the intersecting areas of socioecological theory and postcolonial theory. A child-framed ethnographic methodology is the overarching mode of inquiry. The study was conducted in two districts of Bangladesh, namely, Dhaka and Jessore, involving 28 co-researchers and 84 of their participants all aged 14 and 15.The study’s child-framed research methodology requires representation of data, rather than a traditional qualitative data presentation and analysis. In this roundtable session, I will present my co-researchers and their participants ecoliteracy representations.
