Abstract

In this study, we hoped to understand how different functions of mentoring influence undergraduate students’ various intrinsic and extrinsic academic motivation. In addition, tested the difference between students majoring in STEM and non-STEM students’ various academic motivation by incorporating the sense of a future possible career self. Data came from online responses of 472 undergraduates. Multiple regression models were used, and a measure of a future possible career self served as a moderator between mentoring functions and motivation variables. Result showed that when students are able to envision a possible future career, it contributed significantly to their intrinsic motivation to accomplish and extrinsic introjected, regulation motivation.
