Abstract

This study presents a professional development course that was designed to help teachers develop a deeper understanding of digital game-based learning by exposing them to game analysis, game design, and constructionist gaming beyond integrating existing games into the classroom. This study examined the impact of the professional development experience on teachers’ perceptions, self-efficacy, and intentions regarding digital game-based learning. Twenty-one teachers participated in the study. Both quantitative and qualitative data were collected from pre- and post surveys and participants’ reflections on major assignments. Results of the study showed that the professional development experience improved participants’ understanding of digital game-based learning and had a positive influence on the participants’ perceptions, self-efficacy, and intentions regarding digital game-based learning.
