Measuring Wellness Changes in Undergraduate Students

Mon, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fifth Floor, Westside Ballroom Salon 1

Abstract

There is an increased interest in holistic healthcare and wellness exemplified by increases in the number and variety of higher education programs. Parallel to this growth is a need to establish and monitor student learning outcomes. This study was undertaken to establish if the Holistic Wellness Assessment (HWA) can detect intra-individual changes from an undergraduate course in holistic wellness. Multiplicity adjusted dependent t-tests (N=235) revealed significance changes in five of the eight HWA factors indicating curriculum sensitivity of five of the HWA factors. Instructors and administrators interested in student learning outcomes and curriculum impact may find the HWA as a suitable assessment. This is particularly important as programs react to accreditation demands, student’s need for curriculum feedback, and self-awareness.
