Newly developed survey instruments need to undergo a psychometric evaluation in order to discern any potential validity threats that might affect both score accuracy and inferences made about the scores. Thus, this study provides an empirical demonstration of how to perform a psychometric validation using an item response theory framework, namely the Rasch Rating Scale Model. It is the authors’ hope this study will be of value to other survey researchers who wish to conduct validation studies of their own.
