Role of Organizational Factors in Student Attrition From Graduate Education in Turkey

Abstract

Graduate education leads the undergraduate students to follow a career on their expertise fields. However, in graduate educaiton, organizational and individual factors may affect degree completion of students. This study aims to check attrition rates for Master and Doctoral education and to investigate whether some organizational factors predict student attrition from Master education. The design of the study is a correlational study using secondary data. Student attrition was calculated by ratio of non completer Master students to completers. The findings of the current study showed that attrition rates are at an increasing trend in both Master and Doctoral education. Furthermore, university type predicted student attrition rate such that public universities had higher attrition rates than private universities.
