Abstract

This paper explores the construction and emergence of on online community of mathematics educators interested in sharing and improving their practice. Participants in the EnCoMPASS Project (Emerging Communities for Mathematical Practices and Assessment) at the Math Forum and Drexel University, a project organized around the development and collaborative use of a web-based software environment for the assessment of student mathematical problem solving, are the focus of this paper. We examine the role that digital media tools coupled with in-person working sessions served to support teachers to share and develop their own practice in, what they have described, as meaningful ways. We examine both the social and professional roles these interactive media have on the participants in this project.
