A Decade of Quality Assurance in Graduate Programs of Science and Technology in Chile: Internationalization Strategies

Abstract

Chile build the current National System of Quality almost ten years ago (in 2006) having a direct impact on multiple spheres of higher education institutions such as graduate education. During the past decade, the enrollment in master and doctoral programs increased significantly in Chile (SIES, 2016). This study seeks to understand how the accreditation process might be influencing the internationalization strategies within graduate programs in science and technology in the Chile. This study was qualitative in nature and focused on graduate programs (master and doctoral), 26 interviews were conducted, eight of them with program chairs. Preliminary findings indicate that accreditation years is perceive as quality indicator for foreign students and internationalization was the main area of improvement among programs studied.
