Most studies examining students’ perceptions of racial bias utilize quantitative data and exclude White youths, leaving gaps in understanding adolescents’ perceptions of racial discrimination. Utilizing mixed method data from teachers and students this study explores how students’ race and racial identity shape their understanding of racial discrimination. Interview data from teachers revealed racial biases that impacted their relationships and interactions with Black students. Distinct differences existed within White youths understanding of race and racial identity that aid in their detection of racial discrimination.
