The purpose of this paper is to introduce a framework for understanding research use within the higher education arena. Specifically, we present theoretical perspectives on knowledge dissemination, coordination, and utilization, and discuss how each might guide efforts to address identified barriers that impede research-practice integration in higher education. We close by providing examples of how this framework was applied to research use efforts in our own scholarly agendas.
