This systematic literature review examines internet-based mindfulness interventions from an instructional design perspective, on the basis of the 4C/ID model. The primary goal is to identify design features which impact the effectiveness of internet-based mindfulness interventions across various health conditions. Empirical trials of internet-based mindfulness interventions based on formal mindfulness practice as the main intervention were examined with regard to the four core components of the 4C/ID instructional design framework – namely learning tasks, supportive information, just-in-time information, and part-task practice. The results show that the more effective internet-based mindfulness interventions included supportive information. Similar evidence was found for part-task practice. No clear evidence was found with regard to just-in-time information.
