Sanctuary Schooling: Belonging and Opportunity for Immigrant Students

Fri, April 13, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Park Central Hotel New York, Floor: Ballroom Level, Ballroom

Abstract

The purpose of this ethnographic study is to explore how the policies and practices at Maverick High School create, or impede, their students’ opportunities to succeed as immigrants in a new country. Understanding of the cultural and pedagogical practices in a school that consistently reports positive outcomes for high need immigrant students can help shed needed light on the schooling practices that increase equity and opportunity for these students.
