While conditional admission has been identified as a promising initiative that can expand four-year college access and success for low-income, first-generation students, persistence and graduation rates for these students consistently lag behind their non-conditionally admitted peers despite programs intended to alleviate this concerning gap. This study applied survival analysis methods – an approach that models factors that influence the amount of time to an event of interest, such as student attrition – to four cohorts of conditionally admitted students to identify indicators at various points in the college experience that predict or impact the success of these students. This research provides insight into the salient characteristics and experiences of conditionally admitted students and identifies times and opportunities for intervention and support.
