In light of preparing all children for a world that does not yet exist, there is an ever-present need for children to develop communicational skills involving language, text, and symbols alike. With more touch tools in our classrooms and everyday lives than ever before, children’s multimodal composing opportunities are expanding as well. This qualitative case study acknowledges the expanding role of literacy through an in-depth exploration of young children’s composing practices using an iPad, articulating the children’s creative multimodal expressions and their use of semiotic resources as they achieved the “impossible”.
