Sat, April 14, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Millennium Broadway New York Times Square, Floor: Eighth Floor, Gallery 8

Abstract

The aim of this study is to implement a digital media literacy (DML) course, and explore the effects of a 10-week DML course on students’ digital media literacy. It is a quasi-experimental design study with both pre- and post-test. The participants were 58 fifth graders from two classes. ANCOVA and SEM were performed to examine the effects of the DML course on the digital media literacy of primary students. The results provided evidence that the DML course positively impacts upon students’ citizenship participation, while having no significant influence upon students’ technical knowledge and skills, critical understanding, creation and communication. Moreover, the intervention of the DML course showed positive contributions to the relationship between teacher support and students’ digital media literacy.
