This study examines the past decade of STEM equity education research and the ways that Asian-American K-12 students are written about. After conducting a literature search of the past ten years of STEM equity research, we performed a keyword analysis on 92 research articles. We then examine the results through the lens of critical race theory. In this proposal, we describe how Asian-American students, although present in research settings and writings, are rarely the subject of research and are mostly written about only in relation to Whites and non-Asian students of color. This constant, yet unexamined, presence in the research literature positions Asian-Americans between White students and non-Asian students of color as well as mystifying Whiteness as the norm.
