Enriching Student Experiences and Strengthening Student Support Through Quality Academic Advising

Abstract

While it is commonly-recognized the importance of students’ perspectives about academic advising for the campus community to make evidence-based decision about academic advising programs, senior students’ experiences have not been empirically studied. Drawing on data of 297 senior students participated in the 2015 administration of National Survey of Student Engagement and its topical module of Academic Advising, this study examines senior students’ experiences with academic advising, and how these experiences associate with desired student outcomes. The results indicated that senior students rated their experiences with academic advising relatively fair. The findings revealed a significantly positive relationship between seniors’ experiences with academic advising and perceived gains in college, overall satisfaction and satisfaction with quality of campus relationships.
